HCFI & IJCP congratulate Dr Harsh Vardhan on becoming the Health Minister of India

Dr Harsh Vardhan was sworn in as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday. He also holds additional charge as the Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences.

This is indeed a happy and a proud moment for the entire medical fraternity.

An ENT surgeon by profession to start with, Dr Harsh Vardhan entered into active politics in the 90s and has been elected to the Delhi Assembly five times following which he became a Member of Parliament in 2014 from Delhi (Chandni Chowk constituency).

Dr Harsh Vardhan has been instrumental in elimination of polio in the country. The Delhi Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places & Non-Smokers Health Protection Act, Rational Drug Policy which was recognised by the WHO as the Delhi Model and adopted by many countries are some of his notable contributions. As environment minister, he also launched the National Clean Air Programme that aims to reduce toxic particulate matter by 2024.

With such an array of stellar achievements, we hope that under his stewardship, India would successfully navigate the various obstacles and challenges and achieve the required health targets set out by the UN and WHO. Also, as someone who is a part of the medical fraternity, we hope that he would look into the problems faced by the doctors and try to resolve them.

We congratulate Dr Harsh Vardhan on becoming the Health Minister of India

We also wish him the very best and extend our support and cooperation in all his endeavors to solve the health problems of the country.
