Changing Dharma in the Ceiling Period

Changing Dharma in the Ceiling Period

In Vedic language the word dharma means to “hold”. Whatever in behaviour, happening, conducts or thought, holds people together, is said to be the dharma of the society. The definition of dharma, therefore, is likely to change overtime depending upon the collective consciousness of the people living in that society. These changes have been responsible for formation of various religions all over the world.
Dharma during various yugas will also differ as per the feelings of the people residing in that yuga. Dharma in satyuga is based on truthfulness, trityayuga on purity of mind, in  dwaparayuga on hard work and in kalyuga on daya and daan. Satya, pavitrata, tapa and daan are the four established pillars of dharma as described by Shrimad Bhagwad.
When Amitabh Bachhan was on the deathbed during the shooting of collie everyone in the country prayed for his recovery. When Sanjay Dutt was put behind the bar he was appearing in movies like Khalnayak and playing role of a villain in most of the movies. The public sympathy was not with him. But today when the sentence is due the collective consciousness of the people is in his favour because of his good deeds and spread of gandhigiri messages.
One can see that collective consciousness on the other hand has not been with Manu Sharma in Jessica Lal murder case or with Vikas Yadav in Nitish Katara murder case. Even when Ram Jethmalani wanted to prove Manu Sharma non guilty, the public support was against him.
Today the general public has accepted, that paying bribe to a ticket collector in the train to get a reservation, to the counter person for buy a railway ticket, to MCD or DDA officials to get any work done, to black marketier to buy a movie ticket, or to a DESU department karamchari for getting electricity back in the house is not unethical. Public has also accepted that no house can be brought without paying black money and no passport, ration card, permit for cooking gas or  license for driving can be procured without paying bribe. Similarly, public has accepted that doing unauthorized constructions or commercializing the residential property is their domain as the same can be done by giving bribe to the MCD officials.
The collective consciousness of the people has accepted the above as their fundamental rights and do not consider them as unethical or a sin. That is one reason why in their consciousness they want the present Chief Justice of India, to retire as according to them he is doing a job which the public feels is unethically ethical.
The same CJI was appreciated by the same public for his move for cleaning the environment, shifting hazardous factories from Delhi and bringing the concept of CNG in Delhi as the public felt that these actions were in their favour.
In the present ceiling scenario not only the public but the politicians, bureaucrats and social activists are together and opposing the CJI move. Even the government at the level of corporation, state and centre is trying its level best to legalise the illegal constructions and the illegal commercial use of residential properties.
The CJI feels that it is possible to remove 100% corruption from one particular segment of the society. The public, on the other hand, feels corruption has to be removed or reduced if at all in all the segments and not only one area.
The collective consciousness of the people does not digest the idea of Supreme Court banning the hoardings in Delhi but the same are allowed all over the country; not taking any action against JJ clusters and other unauthorized colonies, and allowing Sainik Farms to flourish with none of the house there having any valid sanctions. The public cannot digest the prevailing corruption in income tax department, sales tax department and house tax department.
Dharma in Kalyuga today has changed overtime. If the present dharma is to accept milder form of corruption a fundamental right then the public’s demand of making illegal legal is not beyond expectation.
But from Vedic point of view one should remember that it is not the society which is Kalyugi but an individual. If we stay as Kalyugi we will have to face and pay the price of lifestyle disorders which invariably will inflict us if we do not live in truthfulness. Diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack, paralysis, acidity, insomnia, depression are all examples of Kalyuga.
