Dr Soumya Swaminathan,
Director General ICMR has been appointed as Deputy Director General at the
World Health Organization (WHO). As part of the senior leadership team at WHO,
she will be one of the two Deputy Director Generals of WHO. Dr Soumya
Swaminathan will be Deputy Director-General for Programmes.
This is yet another feather in
the cap of a brilliant career richly strewn with numerous awards and
achievements. A trained pediatrician, Dr Soumya Swaminathan has more than three
decades years of experience in clinical care, research and translating those
findings into programs.
She is the first Indian to

Time has come for the WHO to
focus on India and we now hope that the health problems of India would be
