Smt. Sheila Dikshit, former
Chief Minister of Delhi and senior Congress leader passed away yesterday
following a cardiac arrest. She fought a prolonged illness before her demise at
Delhi’s Fortis Escorts Heart Institute. Smt. Dikshit underwent a heart surgery
in France last year. She was 81. She had been diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia
(irregular heartbeat). She had an angioplasty in November 2012 and was treated
for infection some time ago. She suffered two cardiac arrests before passing
away.
Smt. Sheila Dikshit was the
longest serving chief minister of Delhi and served three consecutive terms from
1998 to 2013. An exemplary leader, she transformed the face of Delhi during her
tenure. She was credited for Delhi's growing infrastructure including roads and
flyovers, better public transport system as well as development on the health
and educational fronts.
Smt. Sheila Dikshit was a
leader par excellence and the senior-most Congress leader in its Delhi unit.
Not only was she adept in politics but also a great speaker.
The fact that she battled her
health problems unflinchingly till the end shows her indomitable spirit.
We mourn the loss of the tallest
leader of the Congress bastion. May God give her near and dear ones the
strength to cope with this immense loss.
May her soul rest in peace…
