The very purpose of a birthday

The very purpose of a birthday

The purpose of birthday according to our mythology can be interpreted as follows:
  • A birthday is a reminder of our true purpose in life, towards which our actions should be directed. These are Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. Dharma is righteousness – doing our duty; artha is righteous earning of the means to do our duty; kama and moksha represent fulfilling of desires and achieving inner happiness and liberation, respectively.
  • Each one of us has three debts to pay in our lifetime. These are: Dev Hrin, Pitra Hrin and Rishi/Guru Hrin. Our body has been given to us by our parents, they take care of us when we are young and so should we as they grow old; this is pitra Hrin. It also refers to our ancestors. Rishi/Guru Hrin is our debt to our teachers who give us knowledge and Dev Hrin is our debt to God, who has given us consciousness.
Pitra Hrin is repaid by conducting the rituals of Shradh usually performed either on Amavasya every month or on the death anniversary or the day of death according to the Hindu calendar.  Teacher’s day on 5th September is the day when Guru Hrin is repaid. We repay our debts to God through pooja and fasts.

On our birthday, we calculate how many debts are left to be repaid.
  • When we celebrate a birthday, we light candles on the cake and blow out the candles before cutting it. But this is a western culture. Our tradition is to not blow out the candles, but to ignite them. The burning candles illuminate the darkness. They shed light on the path we ought to travel on and enlighten us. Number of candles should be 100 minus the age lived and not age lived.
So, every year on our birthday, we should contemplate on the year that has gone by and take stock of what all has been achieved or what is left unfulfilled and define new goals for ourselves.

Energy Drinks May Put Heart at Risk for Sudden Death

Energy Drinks May Put Heart at Risk for Sudden Death

Energy drinks may raise blood pressure and prolong QT interval increasing the risk of sudden cardiac death.
In a meta-analysis by Sachin A. Shah at University of the Pacific in Stockton,Calif, with a pooled analysis of 93 people who consumed energy drinks, the QT interval on an ECG was significantly prolonged by 10 ms. The threshold level of regulatory concern is around 5 ms.
In another pooled analysis of 132 people by the same group, researchers found a significant increase in systolic blood pressure by 3.5 mmHg that was associated with the consumption of energy drinks.
Doctors are generally concerned if patients experience an additional 30 ms in their QT interval from baseline. QT prolongation is associated with life-threatening arrhythmias.
That energy drinks can prolong the QT and lead to sudden cardiac death, warrants further investigation said Dr Vanita Arora Sr Cardiogist at Max Hospital Delhi.
Half of the energy drinks on the market are consumed by adolescents and young adults added Dr S Arulrhaj Past President Commonwealth Medical Association.
Most energy drinks have caffeine. Drinks such as Monster, Red Bull, Rockstar, Full Throttle, and AMP have three times the amount of caffeine as colas. A 16-oz. can of Monster Energy, for example, contains 160 mg of caffeine, which is almost as much as five cans of soda.

Over 10,000 to be trained in CPR 10 in one day

Wish me luck. I will be attempting a world record tomorrow by training over 10,000 people in one day in CPR 10.

For the first time in India, I will attempt to train more than 10000 people (nearly 13000) in cardiopulmonary resuscitation on 6th April, 2013, Saturday in a special function "CPR 10 Utsav" being organised at Dr. Sampoornanand Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, C-1, Yamuna Vihar, Delhi. The function is being organised by Heart Care Foundation of India in association with Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi.

The practical training will be given to school students, teachers and other members of the public. There are no charges for the training. Apart from Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, the host school, other schools co-hosting the event are Govt. Boys Sr. Secondary School C-1 & B-1 Yamuna Vihar. Over 40 schools from various parts of the city will also be participating in the Utsav.

This will be for the first time in the history that over 10000 people will be trained in hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR 10) at one venue in a single day.

Shri J.P. Aggarwal, Member of Parliament will be launching the camp. Mr Sandeeep Marwah will preside over the closing ceremony.

About CPR 10 Mantra: Within 10 minutes of death (earlier the better), at least for at least 10 minutes, longer the better (adults 25 minutes and children 35 minutes), compress the centre of the chest of the deceased person continuously (uninterrupted) and effectively (1½inch) with a speed of 10x10 = 100 per minute.” Over 35000 people have already been trained in CPR 10.

Wahans (Vehicles) In Mythology

Wahans (Vehicles) In Mythology

In mythological era, the negative tendency of a man is symbolized with the animal nature. Also Gods in Indian mythology are symbolized by living a positive behavior. Every God has been given a vehicle or Wahan. Both God and the Wahan symbolized how to live a positive life and how to control the animal tendencies.
Following are a few examples:
1. Lord Ganesha rides a Mouse. Mouse in mythology is symbolized with greed and Ganesha with one who removes obstacles. The spiritual meaning behind both is – one should learn to control greed to tackle obstacles in life.
2. Lord Shiva riding Nandi (Bull is symbolized with uncontrolled sexual desires) and the duo signifies that for learning meditation, one needs to control sexual desires first.
3. Saraswati (the goddesses of knowledge) sitting on Swan symbolizes that to acquire knowledge one must learn to control the power of discrimination or Vivek. Swan can drink milk and leave water from a mixture of milk and water.
4.  Indra (the one who has a complete control over the intellect) riding on Elephant Airavat is symbolized that intellect (Indra) for its development requires a control over Masti and madness (Elephant).
5. Durga (the perfect woman) riding a lion symbolizes that to become a perfect woman must learn to control her agitation or aggression (lion).
6. Lakshmi (wealth) riding an owl symbolizes that to earn righteously, one must learn to control Owl like properties within us which is not to get befooled.
7. Lord Vishnu (the doer) riding eagle or Garuda (Eagles are opportunistic predators which means they eat almost anything they can find) means controlling your desires to eat the unbalanced food.
8.Krishna riding five horses means one need to control ones five senses
9.  Kartikey rising on Peacock symbolizes that should learn to control one pride (vanity) his ego.
10. The vehicle of Goddess Kali is a black goat. Agni rides Mesha – a ram. Kubera, the god of wealth, also has a ram as his vehicle. A ram is an uncastrated adult male sheep. Goat also signifies uncontrolled sexual desires but lesser than the bull.
11. Yamraj is riding a buffalo which is known for its rampant destruction. Lord Yama or Yamraja is referred to as the god of death, twin brother, lord of justice, Dharma Raja. One can do justice only if one has a control over anger and aggressive behavior.
12. In mythology, apart from Wahans, animals are also shown to be sacrificed which means to kill that animal tendency within himself. For example, during exams, you need to kill your goat behavior which is known to possess excessive sexual desires. You may need to control them throughout the year but during exam you need to kill them. In Kali ki Pooja, buffalo or Bhainsa is sacrificed which again means that in extreme situations, you may need to kill your ego or anger.

Treatment of Mild Hypertension In Low-Risk Patients

Treatment of Mild Hypertension In Low-Risk Patients

There is no convincing data to show the benefit from antihypertensive therapy in patients with mild hypertension and no preexisting cardiovascular disease.
A meta-analysis combined four placebo-controlled trials totaling 8912 patients with mild hypertension and no preexisting cardiovascular disease (1). During 4 to 5 years of follow-up, antihypertensive therapy resulted in lower rates of mortality and stroke but higher rates of myocardial infarction. Low-risk patients with mild hypertension and no preexisting cardiovascular disease who fail to reduce their blood pressure with lifestyle modification should receive antihypertensive therapy.
Treatment of hypertension in frail older adults
Older adults who are frail may not benefit from antihypertensive therapy. In an observational study of 2340 adults older than 65 years, the association between blood pressure and mortality was examined according to whether or not individuals were frail  (2). Frail is defined as an inability to walk six meters in less than eight seconds. Among frail adults, there was no association between blood pressure and mortality. In addition, a higher blood pressure was associated with a lower risk of death among the most frail (i.e., those who could not walk the distance at all).

The Vedic returns

The Vedic returns

It’s time to file the Vedic returns. On 31st March we must have filed our non Vedic financial returns. Vedic returns are to be filed with our consciousness. Thus contains the sum total and a complete account of negative and positive deeds.
The returns filed will include misunderstandings, hurt, anger, resentment, guilt, fears, rejections, failures, unforgiven, envy, mis-behaviour, mistakes and all negative feelings vs compassion, love, caring, empathy, happiness etc.
The first step is to calculate your life Vedic earnings. The earning is not your money based finances earned but your soul and ego based earnings.
Your earnings can be in the following heads
Soul earnings (soul profile)
1. Good will
2. Respect
3. Happiness
4. Peace of mind
5. Health
6. Blessings
7. Friendships
8. Knowledge
Ego earnings (ego profile)
1. Position and status earned
2. Fixed assets (car, house, money)
3. Name, fame and awards
Both soul and ego earnings positive and minus should be computed in the form of returns and submitted to your consciousness. If the result is balance you need to pay thirty percent tax to GOD and you need to pass on to others thirty percent of your returns. For example you need to pass on thirty percent of net happiness to others.
Law of giving is pass on what you get. Keep everything in circulation.
