Dr KK Answers: Should statins be given before angioplasty?


An observational study of 12 980 patients, aged above 65 years with stable coronary artery disease, who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention concluded that pre procedural statin therapy was associated with significant reduction in the risk of death or recurrent acute coronary syndrome in stable heart patients. The study findings support the routine use of pre procedural statins for suitable candidates.
