Dr KK Answers: What should be the goal of diabetes control in patients with recent onset diabetes?


A review of results from recent clinical trials in patients with type 2 diabetes as well as extended follow-up of earlier trials has shown that that early and intensive anti diabetes treatment is recommended in patients with type 2 diabetics, particularly those with a shorter duration of disease and without a history of cardiovascular disease. The goal is to safely lower glycosylated hemoglobin to <7%.
