Emedinews: Dr K K Answers- Are stroke patients treated with IV clot dissolving therapy at risk with IV contrast?

Stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis did not have an increased incidence of cerebral hemorrhage when exposed to iodinated contrast media.  About 4% to 6% of patients developed post-thrombolysis brain hemorrhage, regardless of whether they received intravenous iodinated contrast. This has been reported by Niall J.J. MacDougall, MRCP, of the University of Glasgow, in Glasgow, Scotland, and colleagues in the Journal of American Heart Association. (2011)
