Emedinews: Indian spices may be a cure for metabolic syndrome

Adding a combination of various spices, turmeric (haldi), cinnamon (dal chini), rosemary (rusmari), oregano (Ajwain), garlic powder (lassan), and paprika (Deghi Mirch) to a plain meal significantly reduced postprandial insulin and triglyceride levels (P<0.05), according to a study published online Aug. 1 in the Journal of Nutrition. Compared with the plain meal, insulin levels were reduced 21% and triglyceride levels fell 31% after the spicy meal (P<0.05). These effects may be due to high concentration of phenolic antioxidants in spices.
