Today, Heart Care Foundation of India (HCFI) is
observing the Annual Day of the Sameer Malik Heart Care Foundation Fund.
The Fund is dedicated to the memory of Sameer
Malik, who passed away today, at a young age, due to sudden cardiac death.
The Fund is an initiative of the HCFI to assist
heart patients belonging to economically weaker sections of the society in
getting affordable and quality treatment.
Since it was first established in 2014, the Fund
has successfully sponsored 279 heart surgeries such as valvular heart surgery,
pacemaker implantation, surgeries for congenital heart diseases, bypass surgery
and stents. It has also helped more than 1788 patients, both children and
adults.
Today most beneficiaries of the Fund and their
families will gather for their annual check-ups, interaction with doctors and
some recreation and food.
Every citizen of this country should have the
right to accessible, affordable, quality and safe heart care irrespective of
his/her economical background. This right to health is enshrined in Article 21
of our Constitution.
The Government has taken a step in this direction
with the Ayushman Bharat launched last year.
Our founding philosophy is “no person should die of a
heart disease just because he/she cannot afford treatment”. With this aim,
we provide financial assistance to eligible non-emergent heart patients and
facilitate their surgeries at state of the art hospitals in Delhi-NCR such as
National Heart Institute, Medanta-The Medicity.
Sameer Malik Heart Care Foundation Fund is
committed to saving lives and till the goal of universal health coverage is
attained in the country and even then, the Fund will continue to provide
assistance to needy heart patients, so that they can live a healthy and
productive life.
