Dr KK Aggarwal
In what can be truly described as a historic and bold
decision, yesterday the government of India revoked Article 370 of the
Constitution, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Now, Jammu and Kashmir is no longer a state; instead it
has been divided into two Union Territories (UTs): J&K and Ladakh.
UT in Ladakh will have no legislature like Chandigarh,
while the UT of Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislature similar to that in
Delhi and Puducherry.
This is indeed a bold step taken by the government and
they should stick to it.
The government also passed the NMC Bill, despite the
opposition it faced from others including the medical fraternity. Last week,
the Triple Talaq Bill was also passed by the Parliament.
It is time for the government to take such bold
decisions; there will be some in favor, some who would oppose them.
But the interests of the country should be foremost.
