Dr K K Answers: Can garlic lower cholesterol?

In ayurveda Garlic has been advocated as a method to lower serum cholesterol concentrations.

However a large randomized trial compared three different garlic preparations (raw, powdered, and aged garlic extracts, dose one 4 gram clove) and placebo in 192 adults with LDL bad cholesterol 130-190 mg/dL.

Patients were treated six days per week for six months, and none of the preparations of garlic had a significant effect on LDL-C or other lipid levels

Dr K K Answers: Is raw milk safe?


One should not consume raw milk. As per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA) one should not consume raw (unpasteurized) milk or raw milk products because of the risk of E. coli O157:H7 and other infections.

Dr K K Answers: Is buffalo milk ok?

Is buffalo milk OK?
All milks of animal origin have cholesterol (soya milk has zero cholesterol). Creamy milk of a buffalo is full of cholesterol. One should, only consume skimmed milk.  One should reduce saturated fat intake by substituting skim or 1 percent milk for whole milk. One should not take oil, ghee and butter more than 15 ml in a day. Ghee (clarified butter), butter, cream and coconut oil contain saturated fats which are harmful to the heart.

Examples are sucrose, maltose, glucose, lactose, galactose and fructose.
