1.    Malignant hyperthermia is a rare event characterized by the sudden appearance of fever over 40ÂșC, muscle rigidity, metabolic acidosis, and hemodynamic instability during general anesthesia.
2.    The neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is characterized by high fever, muscle rigidity, altered and fluctuating mental state, and dysautonomias occurring with the use of CNS dopamine depleting agents.
3.     The serotonin syndrome is a distinct entity presenting as agitation, confusion, hyperthermia, and autonomic hyperactivity.
4.    Fever may occur when patients with G6PD deficiency with prescribed drugs such as primaquine, quinine sulfate, or sulfonamides.
5.     Hyperthermia can occur with salicylate toxicity.
